Stories: Flash floods in Zelezniki

A unique weather phenomenon of two severe storms joining above Slovenia caused record breaking percipitation in just one day, on September 18, 2007. Rivers and streams have risen drastically all over the country. The torrential river Sora in Železniki rose over three meters. The raging flash flood destroyed houses, bridges, a cemetary, factory... The water picked up cars and carried them down the valley, destroying a recreation park along the way. Six people died. The full extent of the disaster became clear the next day, when the water subsided, roads opened and upper valley towns became accessible again...
